World Rugby has finally announced the match schedule for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics this July. With only 19 days left to go until the games kick off, the excitement continues to rise as rugby sevens returns to the big stage.
The first game will be a crowed starter as the hosts kick off against the defending champions Fiji. The opening match will start at 09:00am local time on July 26 with the men’s tournament.
The men’s match will have its final battle on July 28 with the men’s Olympic Finals at 18:00.
Then the women’s tournament will kick off on July 29 with Olympic favorites France vs Fiji. The 10,000 strong crowed will be excited to watch the fourth match as Japan faces of with the current Olympic champions Australia.
The women’s gold medal match will be up for grab on the Olympic finals on July 31, 18:00. This will be officially pat of “Super Saturday” – a traditional highlight of the games.
The highly awaited Games will be the first major tournament of sevens rugby after the pandemic took the world by storm. Teams and players have had to cope with the reality of preparing in isolation, as they waited for news of the games to return.
Now teams will be tested on how well they maintained their squads fitness and skills in the long wait, as the Olympic medals seem to be up for grabs for any team willing to leave everything on the pitch.
