Gareth Baber the head coach of the Fijian 7s this Olympic Games has finally announced his 12 man squad for the Olympic Games. Fiji is set to defend their Olympic gold medal from Rio in 2016 and will be captained by Jerry Tuwai.
Baber said that his selection is a mixture of power and pace from several players that will punch through and score tries.
Baber says Nasoko, Vakurinabili, Derenalagi and Tuivuaka will be the players to add power to their squad and Nacuqu, Bolaca together with Aminiasi Tuimaba and Vilimoni Botitu will provide the backline magic flair as they finish with tries.
They also named the travelling reserves: Sireli Maqala, Kitione Taliga, Joseva Talacolo and Kavekini Tabu.
Baber says they are aiming to take control of kick off aerial battles as well as using their set pieces for the best results.
He added that they have selected players who can put the most pressure on their opponents on defense and offence.
Radradra who is flying in for the team will join them in Japan next week.
Fiji has struggled to play in an international tournament for the months because of the pandemic. But they were finally able to play and put in some tune up time at the Oceania Sevens where they were undefeated in the three day tournament.
They faced off with New Zealand, Australia and the Oceania Barbarian which consisted of contracted and University players.
