The USA Men’s 7s Head Coach Mike Friday has announced his full 15-man team for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
Madison Hughes was named captain of the 12 man starters with one alternate and two traveling reserve.
Seven Olympians were chosen to represent the USA Eagles for a second Olympic games and five will make their Olympic debut.
Captain Hughes, Danny Barrett, Carlin Isles and Folau Niua are some names that will bring in the experience for the USA side. Mixing the players with their skills, like Isles speed and Barrett’s power. Niua is the most capped USA Sevens player in history with 69 world series appearances.
Brett Thompson will was name the alternate with Malacchi Esdale and Naima Fuala’au traveling as reserves.
“This selection process has been incredibly competitive and that is a credit to the entire squad, especially off the back of what has been a hugely difficult year for the world,” said Friday in an interview.
“We’ve worked hard as a group to adapt and overcome all the adversities we’ve faced both individually and collectively. We look forward to representing the USA Rugby Community as we chase our spot on the podium.”

Before the Covid-19 pandemic, the USA men’s team claimed seven medals in 10 tournaments, they ended the cancelled season ranked world No. 2.
