Team Mexico joins line up for Quest For Gold

With the Quest For Gold Sevens happening this weekend, Kenya Rugby Seven’s men’s and women’s teams have been forced to back out of the tournament after increased administrative challenges and Covid-19 restrictions.

The tournament will be held in Los Angeles at the Dignity Health Sports Park this weekend, June 25-26.

subsequently, the Mexico Women’s National Sevens team will be joining the competition this weekend, a follow up to their latest appearance at the World Rugby Olympic Repechage. The Mexican women can be remembered narrowly losing to Argentina as they kept everyone on the edge of their seats in the last minutes.

The USA Eagles are excited to welcome their fellow rugby Americas North nation and Mexican rugby fans a like.

The United States, Argentina, Great Britain, Korea and Jamaica are still confirmed for the Olympic preparatory event, with a majority of the squads already in Los Angeles preparing. Organizers remain focused on producing a first-class experience for fans eager to enjoy some rugby sevens and support the USA Eagles on their journey to Tokyo.

This will be USA’s first major rugby tournament on home soil since the pandemic put rugby sevens on a stand still. The USA men’s and women’s sevens team are coming into the Tokyo Olympics looking for a podium finish in the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Both squads have had an outstanding performance in the cancelled HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

Nate Ebner was recently ruled out of the Tokyo Olympics and Quest for Gold for a previous injury he has still recovered from. The Olympian had released a statement regarding his withdrawal from the team, a though loss for the USA team and coach Mike Friday as they lose one less experience player on the field.
