More than US$5,000 has been raised for Fiji sevens player Donasio Ratubuli Naturaga, who requires surgery after suffering an infection in his face.
The gofundme campaign, organised by his friend David Dakuitoga, raised more than US$5,500 as of Saturday afternoon (Hong Kong time), surpassing the US$5,000 target.

A total of 64 donors had contributed for Donasia, who is suffering from a jaw infection that has resuled in a lump the size of a tennis ball on one side of his face.

“Dona was in line for a Fiji Olympic 7s spot before he had a terrible injury. Life has delivered a few blows since and his latest set back needs some help from the outside. If you can spare anything then hit the link below #veilomani,” tweeted former Fiji sevens coach Ben Ryan.

The 31-year-old Donasio played 52 matches for Fiji on the HSBC World Sevens Series, scoring 18 tries for a total of 90 points.

Dakuitoga wrote on the gofundme donation page: “Injuries after injuries and surgery after surgery has left the Fiji 7s rep struggling for survival.

“The recent complication is an jaw infection that went from bad to worse and stayed that way. He is hopeful for another surgery and we are seeking your support and help.

“With this hard time and a family to take care off, we would want to extend our hand out there to seek your kindest heart in helping this fellow country man. Once fought for our country Fiji and made everyone glued to their screens and shouted his name now he is shouting back and need a hand. Donate today and be blessed.”
