James Bailey has named his 12-women squad for the upcoming Marcoussis Grand Prix tournament, which will be streamed live on the Rugby Europe Website.
Abbie Brown returns to the squad to captain England in the opening round of the Rugby Europe Grand Prix Sevens Series. The competition serves as the seeding tournament for the official European Olympic qualification event in Russia next month.
There are a further five changes to the squad that competed for England in the final stage of the HSBC World Sevens Series in Biarritz. It was a disappointing weekend in France for the women as they only won once against the Irish and lost to Fiji, New Zealand and Russia.
There are also places in the squad for Emma Uren, Amy Wilson Hardy, Holly Aitchison, Helen Rowland and Alex Matthews.
England will be playing in Pool A of the Grand Prix event against Ukraine, Russia and Poland at the Centre National de Rugby.
Speaking to England Rugby after revealing his squad, Bailey said: “We’ve been able to plan well for these two upcoming tournaments and worked hard for the team to peak at the right time.
“We’re in a really good position having everyone fit and in form going into two really important competitions for us, so have been able to pick our most-experienced squad this season for Marcoussis. It’s great to be able to blend the experience of our senior players with those in their first year of sevens who have really shown their ability.
“It will be extremely competitive this weekend against high-quality opposition, but we’re in a good place and confident as we head out to France.”
England squad: Claire Allan, Holly Aitchison, Abbie Brown (c), Heather Fisher, Deborah Fleming, Megan Jones, Ellie Kildunne, Alex Matthews, Celia Quansah, Helena Rowland, Emma Uren, Amy Wilson Hardy.
