South Africa sevens star Selvyn Davids is familiar to global audiences for streaking to the line wearing his green and gold Blitzboks uniform. However, don’t be surprised if you see him at him donning pyjamas.
The rising force in sevens rugby revealed in an interview with Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post that his preferred costume if he were attending a tournament as a fan would be his sleeping attire.
‘I would attend the Cape Town Sevens in pyjamas, because that’s what I do most in my spare time,” he told the SCMP.
Davids is hoping to help South Africa win their second straight title on the 2018/19 HSBC World Sevens Series after the Boks won in Vancouver on March 10. And he knows that the Fijians will be among the teams to watch out for in Hong Kong.

When asked who he thought his toughest opponents were, Davids had no hesitation is identifying Fiji – who have already won two events this season and are third in the standings.
“Fiji, they are full of skilful players, a lot of speed and big players, you don’t know what to expect from them,” Davids said of Fiji, who are the defending Hong Kong Sevens champions. “But you can lose to any team on the day, it has all become so competitive.”
Interestingly, the 25-year-old revealed he had no pregame rituals and named a chicken double burger as his favourite food.
The Hong Kong Sevens take place on April 5-7 and South Africa need a strong performance if they are to at least hold on to fourth place and qualify automatically for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
