Fiji’s top sevens players have come under the radar of Scottish clubs, with forward Mesulame Kunavula reported to be in talks with Edinburgh.
The Pacific islanders’ coach Gareth Baber has told Fiji Broadcasting Corporation that is set to sign a long-term contract with the club and is now in the process of sorting out his visa.
“He is still in negotiation with Edinburgh and part of that is he has to sort his visa out and then eventually take up a permanent contract with Edinburgh,” said Baber, who has given the player time to apply for his visa.
“As I’ve said before, obviously players are getting opportunities like this and it’s important for them to pursue those.”
Kunavula is also attracting attention from Bordeaux Begels and the French outfit are keen to secure his signature. Should Kunavula complete his transfer to Edinburgh, he will be joining fellow Fijians Senitiki Nayola and Viliame Mata at the Scottish club.
Fiji skipper Kalione Nasoko has also attracted interest from Scottish clubs and Glasgow warriors is leading the race for securing his services. Nasoko is sidelined with a calf injury and he will be hoping to return to action in the Hong Kong sevens next month.
Should the transfers be completed, the duo will join their clubs in November.
